Looking for a really good site to download free e-books?

I’ve become a little disappointed in how limited the selection is on a lot of e-book sites. I’ve tried project gutenberg, and it’s great, but there are a couple of newer titles I’ve been looking for that aren’t even available on my device’s respective ebook store. Does this just mean that these particular books are probably not available in e-book format yet? Any suggestions for websites that have a really good selection of e-books would be appreciated. THANKS!

theres 4shared.com. its not an e-book site, but i get most of my books from there. its basically where people just put stuff they have on the internet (music, pictures, books etc.) to share with other people, and they almost ALWAYS have what your looking for.

What is the best way to enjoy ebooks?

I am tired of lugging a suitcase full of books on my vacations and would like to do some ebook reading. The only problem is there are so many ebook readers and so many options i can’t decide. Nook, Kindle 2, Sony…etc, there are so many possibilities. I even heard that they have an application for the iTouch which stores ebooks for you and they are free too. I do not know what to buy, what device is better, and where to find the cheapest ebooks. Will someone please help me?

Don’t get devices like iTouch, they have backlight screen like computer screen, and it not suitable for reading.

Don’t get Sony Reader too, it is difficult to find books on it, and books on it are more expensive too.

I’ve given a detailed comparison between the Nook and the Kindle previously, in another answer here. Guess it’ll help you decide which one to choose:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100425013316AAA7BML

And recently, Amazon has announced an upgrade to its Kindle, to secure their market shares. See here for the update details:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fhelp%2Fcustomer%2Fdisplay.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26nodeId%3D200324680%26ref_%3Dhp%5Fnavbox%5Fkrec%5Fsu&tag=ereader-2-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957

Are there any other, cheaper eBook devices out there worth trying?

Sadly, I don’t have the money for an iPad, Amazon Kindle, or Sony eReader at the moment. Would anyone else know of any other eBook devices out there?

No other ebook reader comes close I’ll say, and the Amazon Kindle is the best. If you’re lucky, you’ll see the refurbished version for the Kindle here at the end of this offer list:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00154JDAI?tag=elec-m-20&camp=213381&creative=390973&linkCode=am1&creativeASIN=B00154JDAI&adid=0YJRFTH5PYMQMRARGXWX&

That’ll be cheaper so see if it is okay. It works exactly the same as the new Kindle with the same warranty protection, just that it only has free wireless within the U.S. but no free wireless outside of the United States like the new Kindle. If you don’t travel to overseas much, then it is absolutely okay to get it.

If you want the version with global free wireless, then you should go for this one:

Hope it helps :)

Does anyone own an Amazon Kindle-(ebook reader)?

Hello again! Just to re-emphasize my question: Does anyone own an Amazon Kindle or a Sony eBook Reader? It’s an electronic device that can store up to 350 books downloaded. My job, Walmart Super Center, has the Sony eBook Readers for $148.00. I heard that they’re nice to have, for those who enjoy reading. I’m planning on purchasing one tommorrow!

I own the Kindle, so let me give you some of my opinions. It is a great device, and I’ve to say I love it! I think I’ve read over 30 books with my Kindle, no glitches so far! And since Kindle books are cheaper than actual books, I think I’ve saved around $120 on buying books already.

One of the reasons I love my Kindle is that it has helped me improve a lot on my efficiency and utilize my time. Before I have the Kindle, waiting time like when I’m waiting for friends or waiting for shuttle bus or some thing like that is simply wasted. Now I just need to bring the Kindle 2 along with me, and all my favorite books are inside it. Another thing I like the most is the text-to-speech function, which means I can "read" books without even holding or looking at the Kindle. Now I like to use this function when I’ve myself busy on some boring things, say when I’m on the step machine or doing some housework…

I like reading and at the beginning I did miss a bit on the feeling of reading books. But now I love to hold the Kindle, the e-ink seems to work very well, it is really like reading books… Now I often read with the Kindle for several hours but I don’t feel tired… And I now prefer to manage all books inside the Kindle rather than my never big enough bookshelf… And like to do bookmarking, annotation, dictionary lookup without any additional thing but a Kindle.

There are quite a lot of free books (tips: if you’re outside the U.S. all the books will have US$2 added, but when you choose to download to computer when you check out, the $2 will be waived, and you can copy the books to your Kindle through USB cable), and many Kindle books, magazines and newspapers are cheaper than the actual paper version. I remember I read these reviews about the benefits of the Kindle when I decided to buy it:

What are some practical uses of the pockel effect?

Could it be used for really cool ebook reader devices or something?

How about reading about it at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pockels_effect ?

Will this fits my ebook reading plan?

Hi all. I have lots of boring time when I take a bus, so I need a ebook device to kill this time. Does this ebook fits my need of ebook reading? http://www.gindart.com/buy/7-tablet-wifi-ebook-reader-gravity-sensor-google-android-os-p-564.html

I’ll suggest you to go for the Amazon Kindle instead. It is the most popular ebook reader, and it is cheaper and more easy for you to get books on it.

ViewSonic VEB620 eBook e-reader hands-on from Taipei

http://www.tweaktown.com Today we attended a ViewSonic press conference in Taipei where the company used the event to launch a range of new eBook e-readers appropriately held at the eslite bookstore.

First up Mike Chen, a ViewSonic product manager for its digital media business unit, introduces the cheapest of its new e-readers, the VEB620 eBook. But when we say cheap though, don’t let they confuse it. It comes packed with features and the only thing it really misses out on is wireless connectivity, so you will either need to use a microSD card or copy books etc over via USB from your computer.

The unit will go on sale in Taiwan in a week or so with a street price of 4,900 NTD – which works out to be around 153 USD at today’s exchange rate. The device comes with a six-inch screen with 16 levels of grey that is capable of an 800 x 600 resolution. It weighs in at a rather light and comfortable eight ounces or around 227 grams. It was really nice to hold and is made using soft plastics that feel good. Distributed by Tubemogul.
