Selling this Amazon Kindle DX (the big one) and matching leather cover. I bought this for my mom for Christmas, but she decided she wanted the smaller Kindle. Since she already opened the packaging, I cannot return this to Amazon, so I am selling it on eBay. If you have questions, email me, or see the auction at this link:

Introducing Kindle™
Three years ago, we set out to design and build an entirely new class of device—a convenient, portable reading device with the ability to wirelessly download books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers. The result is Amazon Kindle.
We designed Kindle to provide an exceptional reading experience. Thanks to electronic paper, a revolutionary new display technology, reading Kindles screen is as sharp and natural as reading ink on paper—and nothing like the strain and glare of a computer screen. Kindle is also easy on the fingertips. It never becomes hot and is designed for ambidextrous use so both “lefties” and “righties” can read comfortably at any angle for long periods of time.
We wanted Kindle to be completely mobile and simple to use for everyone, so we made it wireless. No PC and no syncing needed. Using the same 3G network as advanced cell phones, we deliver your content using our own wireless delivery system, Amazon Whispernet. Unlike WiFi, youll never need to locate a hotspot. There are no confusing service plans, yearly contracts, or monthly wireless bills—we take care of the hassles so you can just read.
With Whispernet, you can be almost anywhere, think of a book, and get it in one minute. Similarly, your content automatically comes to you. Newspaper subscriptions are delivered wirelessly each morning. Most magazines arrive before they hit newsstands. Havent read the book for tomorrow nights book club? Get it in a minute. Finished your book in the airport? Download the sequel while you board the plane. Whether youre in the mood for something serious or hilarious, lighthearted or studious, Kindle delivers your spontaneous reading choices on demand.
And because we know you can’t judge a book by its cover, Kindle lets you download and read the beginning of books for free. This way, you can try it out—if you like it, simply buy and download with 1-Click, right from your Kindle, and continue reading. Want to try a newspaper as well? All newspaper subscriptions start with a risk-free two-week trial.
Kindles paperback size and expandable memory let you travel light with your library. With the freedom to download what you want, when you want, we hope youll never again find yourself stuck without a great read.
We’re very proud to introduce Amazon Kindle and we hope you like it as much as we do.

My wife and I are moving out of the US to Europe for my job and she would like to get a Kindle DX (that’s the larger, more expensive one) before we leave.
We’re wondering how it will work once outside of the US — we understand that the free wireless service will not be available, which leaves us with wired syncing.
Therefore I have a few questions:
- Can I load books and other content onto the device from a PC through a USB cord?
- How is content downloaded to my computer? I see on Amazon.com that they have a Kindle Books section but every book I look at says delivery is wireless. Since I won’t have wireless connectivity, how, then, is content delivered to the Kindle?
I feel like I’ve looked and looked and this information is not forthcoming anywhere I’ve looked.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Kindle#Content_sources indicates wired syncing is possible, but I would like to know more details about buying a Kindle and using it abroad.
We’re assuming that Kindle will not be available in Europe before long since they keep saying it’s coming and it doesn’t come because Amazon is having trouble getting deals with wireless operators.
Thank you for your help.
Yes, if you buy the Kindle DX when you’re in the U.S., you can have it work when you’re in Europe (all functions, other than Whispernet, will work). There is a very good discussion about using the Kindle outside the U.S. here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fforum%2Fcd%2Fdiscussion.html%3Fie%3DUTF8%26cdForum%3DFxBVKST06PWP9B%26cdPage%3D1%26cdThread%3DTxY5C3QQT7MCI1&tag=searchresult-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957
So to answer your questions:
- You can load Kindle books or your own PDF files through USB to the Kindle, just by a drag and drop on your PC
- Guess you must have internet access when you’re in Europe, right? Just use your PC to go to Amazon website and login your account, and you’ll be able to download the Kindle books to your computer. See the above link for detail steps.
There is also a good article here talking about how to get the most out of the Kindle DX, see if you’re interested:
http://ebookreader.ebestreview.com/is-the-kindle-dx-worth-it
Hope this solves your problem.
Does the Amazon Kindle or Sony Reader have more books that you can buy in their stores?
Furthermore, which is a better Reader in your opinion?
Definitely the Amazon Kindle, it is famous for providing much better content support compared to other ebook readers. The ebooks on Amazon Kindle is also cheaper than that on Sony Reader.
I love my Kindle 2 very much. The Amazon Kindle is better than Sony Reader also because it has free wireless and text-to-speech function. There are some good comparison between them here:
http://www.speedreaderxreview.com/kindle-2-0-vs-sony-reader-prs-700bc-comparison
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Freview%2FR3ULAFVHBGYVQP%3Fie%3DUTF8%26ref%255F%3Dcm%255Fcr%255Frdp%255Fperm&tag=moreinfo-po-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957
And in case you don’t know, Amazon has recently put a price slash on the Kindle 2, and it adds in international wireless access and native PDF support… So take the chance if you want it.
Hope it helps
